Renovating a house in a foreign country without experience. It could easily be a story from the TV program 'I'm leaving'. Fortunately, I can now say afterwards that everything went very smoothly. With a great contractor who also lives down the street, perfect guidance from Moore Property Services, the renovation was a success.
Below you will find an impression of the renovation.
The bathroom has new wall tiles, a new washbasin, toilet and a shower wall.
The skeleton of the kitchen remains standing. Furthermore, there is little left of the old kitchen. An extra corner has been built on the left for seating.
The uprights have been re-plastered, a new top has been installed and the back wall has modern, but rustic tiles.
The living room had a sliding window, which has been replaced by traditional handmade French doors
The house is approximately 500 years old and still has many beautiful old elements. These have of course all been preserved.
An extra staircase has been constructed so that you can reach the terrace from the living room.
Actually, the window frames were supposed to be installed with stain, but it doesn't always go as you expect. The painter went on holiday unannounced and so there was nothing left to do but give them a few coats of stain themselves.
Throughout the house, the aluminum frames have been replaced by handmade wooden frames with shutters. These provide wonderful cooling during the hot summer days.
Very nice to follow the process of the swimming pool. I couldn't be there all the time, but I was kept well informed through photos and videos.

After a few weeks, the swimming pool and surrounding terrace are completed and ready for use.
The uneven stairs have made way for a beautiful fan-shaped staircase to the front door.
There are many stairs around the house and these have been neatly laid out again.

One of the last projects was exterior painting. There were still gray areas everywhere, smeared after installing the new window frames. Now everything is nice and white again!
The pool is ready for use! From spring onwards the pool will be warm enough to cool off in!
The living room already has a lot of charm due to the old elements. A rug and a nice large sofa provide a wonderful place to relax.
It has become a wonderful bathroom with a great view of the valley.
From the higher terrace you walk past the swimming pool into the garden that is yet to be constructed.
The last project will be the garden. The drawings are ready and in February and March a new shed will be built and the garden will be provided with tropical plants and trees.
An extra shed has been built at the back of the garden to give the garden more atmosphere, but of course also for some extra storage space.
The back of the garden is not the prettiest, which is why this shed is a nice distraction. A little more plasterwork and some white paint and there is an authentic Spanish casita.
The garden is ready to be planted.
In two days the garden was planted with a diversity of Mediterranean flowers and plants. A lemon and mandarin tree should of course not be missing.
The garden has been planted and can now start growing!
